• The finished word clock - LEDs shine through the acrylic panel to light up the words

  • Soldering the LED strip

  • Testing with microcontroller and real-time clock

  • Yay, it tells the time!

  • Close up - the LEDs are hidden behind a transparent screen so the light spreads evenly

Word Clock

My parents wanted a word clock like the QLOCKTWO, so I built it for them.
I used a laser cutter to cut the words out of the acrylic front panel, then built the LEDs out of an LED strip and then put the whole thing together with a microcontroller and a real-time clock.
The brightness of the LEDs changes dynamically through ambient light but can also be adjusted manually.
A keypad on the back let's you change the time if necessary.
